Why should i trim a video file? 

Trimming or cutting a video file is the fundamental editing process of removing unwanted footage from the beginning, middle, or end of a clip to isolate only the most relevant content. You may wish to do this to eliminate dead air, accidental pauses, or technical fumbles that often occur before the "action" starts or after it ends, which instantly tightens the pacing and makes the content more engaging. Furthermore, trimming is often a practical necessity; it significantly reduces file size for easier sharing and ensures the video fits within the strict duration limits of social media platforms like Instagram Stories, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts.

How can i trim a video file? 

Video File Selection 

You can trim a video file using your web browser at http://webmconverter.app you just simply need to select your video file from the interface using the select button on the correct video conversion page.

 

This should open the file selection dialog and limit your visible files to your selected format. In this example i selected the mkv format as my source video file, but many other format are also supported.

Input video information

Once the video file has been selected from your storage device, it's may take a few seconds for the video file to be inspected by the video processor. Once the file has been inspected you will be able to see some information about the video file. If the video file was correctly probed.

 

 In this example we will be using sintel a free video clip for this sort of project.

Video clip extraction

Now that the video file has been select correctly you need to scroll to the truncate switch below and select it.

Once the truncate switch has been selected, it should look like the following. 

The shown options are From and To, the From option is for the starting position of the video clip extraction and you guessed it the To is for the end of the video clip extraction. these values MUST be entered correctly in order for the video converter to proceed. Both of these options supported the following formats SS as in Seconds, HH:MM:SS as in Hours:Minutes:Seconds the HH:MM:SS also supports a milliseconds for a more precise cut. Make sure the values don't overlay and are in range of the detected duration of the chosen video file.

Video Conversion

Once you are happy with your chosen video cut you should scroll down to the convert button, which will have different text based on your chosen source video file format.

Press this button to start the conversion process and a progress bar will be shown like below if everything is ok.

Once the progress bar reaches 100%, you will be able to download the converted video clip to your storage device.
